Caritas Christi to acquire Landmark Medical Center
After nearly three years in receivership, Landmark Medical Center and the Rehabilitation Hospital of RI are a step closer to having a new owner. On May 31, RI Superior Court Judge Michael Silverstein announced that Steward Health Care (formerly Caritas Christi) would be permitted to move forward with its bid to acquire the two hospitals. UNAP Local 5067. which representsnearly 600 nurses and other health professionals at Landmark and RHRI, played a lead role in advocating for Steward, after two other companies that were acceptable to the Union dropped out of the running-- leaving only RegionalCare, which the Union strongly opposed. Union members have approved a new tentative contract with Steward.
